2027 AJAS Poster Presentation Requirements

All AJAS delegates present their original research during the AJAS Poster Session, held as part of the AAAS Annual Meeting. The poster session is an opportunity to discuss your research with scientists, educators, and fellow students in a professional, supportive environment.

Poster Format

Students may choose one of two presentation formats:

Option 1: Large-Format Poster *(Recommended)*

One professionally printed poster
Recommended size: 48 inches (wide) × 36 inches (tall)
Many students create their poster as a single PowerPoint slide before printing.

Option 2: Multi-Page Display

Print individual sections of your poster (title, text, figures, charts, photos, etc.) on standard paper.
Arrange and attach the pages to the provided poster board during setup.

Poster Board Information

Each presenter will be provided with:

A 4 ft × 8 ft display area
Push pins for mounting your poster

Students are responsible for bringing their poster materials to the conference.

Poster Session

Each student will be assigned to a poster presentation session during the conference. Your assigned session and presentation location will be provided before the event.

Students should be prepared to:

Stand by their poster during their assigned session
Give a brief overview of their research
Answer questions from conference attendees

If your travel plans require you to leave before the conclusion of the poster session, please notify the AJAS organizers as early as possible.

Poster Content Guidelines

Unlike some high school research competitions, AJAS does not require posters to follow Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) or International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) formatting rules.

You are welcome to:

Include your research advisor, teacher, laboratory mentor, or other contributors on your poster.
Design your poster in the format that best communicates your research.

Poster Approval

AJAS/NAAS staff do not approve individual posters before the conference.

Your poster should be reviewed and approved by:

Your State Academy representative or chaperone, and
Your research advisor, if applicable.

Please work with your State Academy to ensure your poster meets any local requirements before arriving at the conference.

A Collaborative Research Experience

The AJAS Poster Session is not a competition. Its purpose is to provide students with the opportunity to:

Share original research with the scientific community
Practice communicating scientific findings
Receive constructive feedback
Connect with scientists, mentors, and fellow student researchers

We encourage students to focus on clear communication, thoughtful discussion, and enjoying the opportunity to present their work at a national scientific meeting.
